Text is taken from a poem honoring Heidelberg, written in 1853 by Josef Viktor von Scheffel and set to music in 1872 by Weise von Zimmerman.
This stein can be found both with and without a banner under the handle containing the dates 1386 to 1886, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the founding of the University of Heidelberg.
