The artwork on this stein was inspired by Munich artist Heinrich Schlitt�s (1849-1923) depictions of Heinzelm�nnchen (magical German little people), a recurring theme in both his paintings and numerous ceramic objects created for Villeroy & Boch, Mettlach. In the background is the Washington Monument, perhaps the most well-known landmark in the nation�s capital. The 555-foot tall obelisk was built between 1848 and 1884 as a memorial to George Washington, first President of the United States.
