Scene and first text string taken from a poem entitled “The Trumpeter of Säckingen”, written in 1853 by Josef Viktor von Scheffel, which tells the story of a love affair between a trumpeter and a baron’s daughter. Original engraving entitled “Abschied” (Farewell) done in 1888 by Carl Schweninger (1854-1903).
Same model number later applied to a stein with a different configuration but the same subject-matter. See also No. 983.
