The shield on the lid inlay is from the Kaiserlicher Automobil Club (KAC). Founded in 1899 as the Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD), it was renamed KAC in 1904, when Emperor Wilhelm II became the honorary president. After WWI, the club reverted to its original name (AvD) and continues to operate under that name today.
