This is one of a group of designs bearing model numbers 2683 through 2685, created circa 1900 for Villeroy & Boch/Mettlach by Richard Riemerschmid. All known examples are marked on the base with the logo shown at the left (i.e., Richard Riemerschmid/Vereinigte Werkstätten). The Munich-based Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk (United Workshops for Art in Handcrafts) was an artist cooperative co-founded by Riemerschmid in 1898.
