(Barley juice and hops, served by a pretty hand,
are wondrous drops for everyone in the wide German land.)
English Text:
“Where the last drop in the well, as I gasped upon the brink,
ere my fainting spirit fell, ’tis to thee that I would drink.”
Both versions are typically seen with the barmaid lid inlay, but the English version can also be found with an English language inlay reading: “O’er a song and a bumper let us be gay. Ne’er think of tomorrow but drink boys today.”
