Orivit AG was founded in Cologne in 1894 and, over its 21-year history, became well known and respected for its decorative metalwork. The body of this stein was made by Villeroy and Boch at Mettlach and then decorated in Cologne with so called �Orivit metal�, a pewter-like formulation that also included a small amount of silver.
Note that the catalog number (2541) was applied to the base by Orivit, and may or may not reflect the Mettlach numbering system. It would, however, be generally consistent with the numbering of similar Mettlach products manufactured during that period.
