Pottery, etched, 6.8L, pewter lid, signed by F. Quidenus.
The theme of this stein is taken from a medieval legend which tells the tale of the “Swan Knight”. Today, the story is most often associated with the Richard Wagner opera “Lohengrin”, first performed at Weimar in 1850. In this scene, Lohengrin arrives on his swan boat, just in time to save Elsa, daughter of the late Duke of Brabant, from the clutches of the evil knight Friedrich of Telramund.
