The hexagram decoration on the lid, often mistaken to be the Jewish Star of David, is actually a German brewing symbol seen frequently on beer steins produced through the early 20th century.
This stein can be found both with and without the dates �1886� and �1911� in white banners on either side of the portrait, commemorating the New York City brewery�s 25th anniversary.
