An early 1.85-liter unpainted version of this stein had a figural hunting horn handle that was not carried through to the later design. Parian examples of the early design exist with a large figural lid inlay depicting an eagle clutching a rabbit. A low relief inlay has also been seen, but it is most frequently found, both in pottery and parian, mounted with a pewter lid and eagle thumblift (bottom row).
