The central shield displays the flag and rampant lions representing the Kingdom of Bavaria, which existed from 1805 until 1918, after which it became a state in the German Republic.
An original version of this stein would have been a souvenir of service, acquired upon discharge from active duty in the Imperial German Army during the period prior to World War I.
