Fireman Fritz was originally developed as a special order stein for attendees at a firefighter�s convention held in Utica, New York. In addition to the 10,000 steins marked �1st Edition�, 2,000 were made specifically for the firefighters and marked �Special Edition�. Given these circumstances, it is likely that the �Special Edition� steins actually preceded the �1st Edition� steins and, consequently, should be considered the �original� versions of Fireman Fritz. �1st Edition� copies of Fireman Fritz are marked comparably to other Schultz & Dooley characters made during the 1989-1994 time frame. �Special Edition� copies are marked on the base as shown below.
