The centrally depicted Ulm Cathedral (Ulmer M�nster), is a Gothic style Lutheran church which, for a short period in the late 19th century, held the title of the tallest building in the world with a steeple topping out at 530 feet. Pictured on the left side is an experimental hang glider created by early aviation pioneer Albert Ludwig Berblinger, the "Flying Tailor of Ulm", in which he made a failed attempt to cross the Danube river in 1811. The right side shows the Ulm Sparrow, a symbol of the city since the 1840s.
