Text is from the opening verse of a patriotic anthem entitled �Vaterlandslied� (Fatherland Song), written in 1812 by Ernst Moritz Arndt and set to music by Albert Methfessel in 1818.
The concept of the tree of life can be seen across a wide spectrum of religious, philosophical and scientific disciplines, depicted in various forms and motifs, and alluding to the interconnectedness all living things on earth.
