The central figure on this stein is Bavaria, the female personification of the Bavarian state, the depiction here is taken from a bronze statue at the entrance to Munich�s Ruhmeshalle (Hall of Fame), commissioned by Ludwig I in the mid-19th century. Side images depict Krieg and Friede, personifications of war and peace, respectively.
The Palatinate (Pfalz), referenced in the text, is a region in southwestern Germany that operated in union with Bavaria for more than five centuries prior to the end of World War I.
