Stoneware, relief, 1.5L, pewter lid.
The bearded man images surrounding this stein are no doubt intended to represent the mythical woodland Wild Man of Germanic folklore, a symbol of strength and endurance. Note that the beards in this case appear to made of oak leaves. The oak is the national tree of Germany, and has been a symbol of German culture since the days of the early Germanic tribes.
