Catalog No. 6166
Pottery, relief, 0.5L, pewter lid.
The Alamo, a former Roman Catholic mission and fortress compound, originally known as the Mission San Antonio de Valera, was the site of a well-known battle in 1836 for Texas independence from Mexico. Although the defenders of the Alamo were outnumbered and overwhelmed by the Mexican Army, the battle served to inspire the Texans to victory shortly thereafter at the Battle of San Jacinto, in which the Mexican army was defeated and permanently driven from the newly formed Republic of Texas.
