The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.) is an American fraternal order originally founded in 1868 as a social club for minstrel show performers. The 11th hour clock seen both in the central image and on the lid inlay is a traditional B.P.O.E. symbol for remembrance of departed members.
