Gut Heil
(Good health)
Ein frisches Turnerblut bringt Kraft u. frohen Muth.
(A fresh gymnasts blood brings strength and happy spirit.)
The central figure in this design is Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778-1852), or Turnvater Jahn, who is credited with responsibility for the rebirth of gymnastics in Germany during the early 19th century, and for development of gymnastics equipment such as the parallel bars and pommel horse. The 4F symbol that appears in shields on both sides of the stein represents that movement and stands for Frisch, Fromm, Frhlich, Frei (Fresh, Pious, Happy, Free).
