ueber Berg u. Tal davon frisch sein Horn erschallen.�

(Happy is the postilion, let the whip crack,
across mountain and valley, crisp his horn resounds.)

A post-chaise was a horse-drawn carriage used for both transporting passengers and carrying the mail between post houses. The Postillon (postilion) referenced in the text sometimes served as the coachman, as in this depiction, but was more typically mounted on one of the horses pulling the coach.
