Catalog No. 1195
Pottery or stoneware, relief, 1.0L, figural inlaid lid (frog).
Text:
“Trinkt Brüder trinkt bis der Letzte sinkt.”
(Drink brothers drink until the last one sinks.)
In Germany, a student in the gymnasium (prep school), before entering the university, is called a Frosch, or frog, which probably accounts for the depiction of students as frogs on this stein.
This stein exists in two virtually identical versions numbered 1195 and 11195 (presumably later). Sale prices tend to be in the same general range for both.
