Established in 1589 as a brewery to the royal residence, the Hofbräuhaus is now by far the most well-known of Munich’s beer halls and a must-see Oktoberfest destination. The centrally depicted Münchner Kindl (Munich Child), originally created in 1239 as the coat-of-arms or archival seal of Munich, has evolved over the years from a hooded monk standing in front of Munich’s gate to a charming child and symbol of the city.
