The depiction of Siegfried slaying the dragon is drawn from ancient German and Norse legends, which later served as the basis for Der Ring des Nibelungen, a series of four operas by Richard Wagner. On the lid figurine, Siegfried is seen in a romantic pose with the valkyrie Brunhilde, has true love and daughter of Wotan, the chief God.
