(The poet must illuminate the earth’s dark course,
so take this stein and pour beer from it.)
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) and Friedrich von Schiller (1759-1805) were two of Germany’s foremost writers and, as indicated by the saying on the stein, both were highly accomplished poets.
