Text:
Mit deinem Murrchen spiel nur zu, du ahnungsloser Engel du,
es kommt, bist du erst Gattin einst die Zeit, wo du ob Katern weinst.
(Just continue playing with your little cat, you innocent angel you,
there will come a time, once you are married, when you will weep because of tomcats.
Central image and text are taken from an illustration by Kaspar Kgler (1838-1923), part of an 1890 mural that once graced the Wiesbaden Ratskeller, but was sadly destroyed in World War II. To appreciate the meaning of the text, it must be understood that the tomcat (Kater) is both a German symbol and idiomatic expression for a hangover.
