Franz Defregger (1835-1921) was a Munich artist and professor whose depictions of Tyrolean life have come to symbolize the genre and are often seen on beer steins.
A variation of this stein (below right) replaces the saying on the “standard” version with a castle scene. Side images of Tyrolean dancers are the same on both versions.
