Catalog No. 317
Pottery, etched, 0.5L, pewter lid.
Peter Dümler’s intent when designing the image on this stein has unfortunately been lost to history. However, it is not unlikely that the central character represents Bacchus, Roman god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, and that the two mermaid-like figures are Rhine maidens, keeping Bacchus well supplied with the product of the many vineyards sited along the river.
