Reinhold Hanke Stein Catalog |
Founded in the Westerwald town of Höhr in 1868 by Reinhold Hanke, the firm bearing his name is considered by many to have been a pioneer in the “Historismus” style widely associated with Westerwald steins today. Following Hanke’s death in 1886, the company was run by his wife until 1901, when it was taken over by his son, August Hanke, who managed operations until his death in 1938, at which point production was effectively terminated. For a brief period beginning in 1911, Hanke joined with several other Höhr-Grenzhausen firms in a joint marketing effort called Steinzeugwerke.
